{"id":1774,"date":"2008-11-11T20:23:49","date_gmt":"2008-11-12T03:23:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.janice-campbell.com\/?p=103"},"modified":"2008-11-11T20:23:49","modified_gmt":"2008-11-12T03:23:49","slug":"veterans-day-2008-the-soldier-by-robert-frost","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doingwhatmatters.com\/veterans-day-2008-the-soldier-by-robert-frost\/","title":{"rendered":"Veterans&#8217; Day 2008- The Soldier by Robert Frost"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>The Soldier<\/h4>\n<p>by Robert Frost<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 14px; padding-top: 20px; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px;\">He is that fallen lance that lies as hurled,<br \/>\nThat lies unlifted now, come dew, come rust,<br \/>\nBut still lies pointed as it ploughed the dust.<br \/>\nIf we who sight along it round the world,<br \/>\nSee nothing worthy to have been its mark,<br \/>\nIt is because like men we look too near,<br \/>\nForgetting that as fitted to the sphere,<br \/>\nOur missiles always make too short an arc.<br \/>\nThey fall, they rip the grass, they intersect<br \/>\nThe curve of earth, and striking, break their own;<br \/>\nThey make us cringe for metal-point on stone.<br \/>\nBut this we know, the obstacle that checked<br \/>\nAnd tripped the body, shot the spirit on<br \/>\nFurther than target ever showed or shone.<\/div>\n<p><strong>Freedom is never free.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>I<\/strong>&#8216;m thankful for all those who have shared in the mission of keeping our country safe, and those who have served on the home front.
